RootVolt / Ambrozer Technologies
EWD™ / Ambrozer™ / RootVolt™
Intelligent Electrical Weed Elimination Technology
What Is RootVolt?
RootVolt™ (formerly EWD™ / Ambrozer™) is an advanced electrical weed control technology developed to eliminate unwanted plants directly through their natural biological structure.
Unlike traditional weed control methods that rely on:
Chemical herbicides
Mechanical cutting
Flame treatment
Repeated mowing
RootVolt™ uses precisely controlled electrical energy that travels through the plant itself and down into the root system.
The objective is not merely to remove visible weeds above ground, but to attack the entire plant structure, including the root system, where regrowth normally begins.
How The Technology Works
Step 1 – Plant Identification
The operator or AI system identifies the target weed.
Future autonomous versions utilize:
to identify weeds automatically.
Step 2 – Direct Contact
A RootVolt electrode is placed in contact with the weed.
The plant itself becomes a natural conductor.
Step 3 – Energy Transfer
A carefully controlled electrical pulse is introduced into the plant.
The energy travels through:
This creates cellular disruption within the plant.
Step 4 – Root-Level Impact
Unlike mowing or cutting, which often leaves the root alive, RootVolt is designed to impact the entire plant system.
The goal is:
Step 5 – Long-Term Control
Because the root system is targeted, fewer repeat treatments may be required compared with traditional methods.
This can significantly reduce:
Labor requirements
Chemical use
Operating costs
Environmental impact

Sustainable farming systems
Reduction of herbicide dependence
The long-term objective is to provide farmers with an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional weed management.
The Global Weed Problem
Weeds represent one of the largest hidden costs in agriculture worldwide.
Research from multiple agricultural organizations shows that weeds can reduce crop yields dramatically and cost farmers billions of dollars every year. (Frontiers)
Global Impact
Weeds can cause yield losses ranging from 10% to over 60% depending on crop and growing conditions. (ResearchGate)
Weed competition is estimated to cost U.S. agriculture approximately USD 33 billion annually in lost production. (Frontiers)
In Australia, weeds currently cost grain and cotton producers approximately AUD 4.43 billion annually. (csiro.au)
In India, annual losses caused by weeds in major crops have been estimated at approximately USD 11 billion. (ResearchGate)
Studies suggest weeds may be responsible for roughly one-third of agricultural losses in many production systems. (bbasr.org)
Additional Challenges
Farmers worldwide face increasing pressure from:
Herbicide Resistance
Many weed species are becoming resistant to chemical herbicides.
This creates:
Researchers estimate herbicide-resistant weeds already cost hundreds of millions of pounds annually in the United Kingdom alone. (rothamsted.ac.uk)
Labor Shortages
Manual weed removal is becoming increasingly expensive.
In some specialty crops, hand-weeding costs can exceed:
according to UK agricultural studies. (AHDB)
Environmental Pressure
Governments worldwide continue tightening regulations on chemical herbicides.
Farmers are therefore seeking:
Chemical-free alternatives
Sustainable technologies
Precision agriculture systems
Reduced environmental impact
